Today, I want to share with you a very personal experience of my daily struggle and transformation – my hair care routine and how fragrances influence my emotions during summer.

Let's get real. Who hasn't ever been conflicted about their hair? Dryness, frizz, dandruff, split ends, greasy roots – it's like a never-ending list! And don't even start me on the smell issues. One bad odor can ruin your entire day.

My Hair Care Journey: From Experimentation to Simplicity I was accustomed to testing shampoos when I was a kid. Lifebuoy, Sunsilk, Palmolive – call them. The glossy TV advertisements made me think I would have Rapunzel hair if I just used whatever the actress used. But real life? Not so much fairy tale.

Finally, I discovered Dove shampoo and conditioner. And behold, for the first time, something actually worked for me:

  • Less hair loss
  • Fewer dandruffs
  • Almost frizz-free hair
  • Soft texture

Now I've made it my constant companion.

But my experience did prove one thing: our minds and emotions determine how products impact us. If you have negative feelings about self-care, then nothing works. But when you're relaxed and centered, your body responds positively. It's not the product—it's how you care for yourself.


Different Types of Hair & Their Care

Here, we will look at the five main hair types and discuss the best ways to handle them.

1. Dry Hair

Signs:

  • Rough texture
  • Dullness
  • Breakage
  • Frizz

Reasons: Not enough natural oils, heat from styling tools, shampooing too often and harsh weather

Best Oils:

  • Coconut Oil: Supports and penetrates the skin efficiently
  • Argan Oil: Smooths your hair and adds shine.
  • Olive Oil: Helps moisturize the hair and repairs damage.

Hair Masks:

  • Banana + Honey
  • Avocado combined with Coconut Oil
  • Yogurt mixed with Olive Oil

Best Shampoo:

  • Dove Intense Repair
  • Khadi Natural Herbal Shampoo

Do not use: Shampoos with sulfates, too hot water, shampoo your hair every day.

2. Oily Hair

Signs:

  • A greasy scalp can occur within 1 or 2 days.
  • Flat and limp pieces of hair
  • Dandruff

The causes include active sebaceous glands and changes in hormones.

Oil Tips:

Try to steer clear of heavy oils. Remove tea tree or jojoba oil from your hair after one week of application.

The Best Hair Masks:

  • Clay + Aloe Vera (helps absorb excess oil)
  • Combine Multani Mitti with rose water.

Shampoos:

  • Himalaya Anti-Dandruff
  • Tea Tree Shampoo by Mamaearth

You should wash your hair no more than 2 to 3 times a week. Clarifying shampoo should be used at least once every four weeks.

3. Combination Hair

Signs:

  • There is oil at the roots and dryness at the tips.
  • Frizzy and flat hair

Solution: Shampoo only your scalp and apply an oil serum to your ends.

Best Oils:

  • Apply grapeseed oil to your ends.
  • Jojoba Oil can be used on the scalp.

Masks: Apply aloe vera + honey to ends only.

4. Sensitive/Scalp-Irritated Hair

Signs:

  • A scalp that feels itchy, flakes or swells
  • Falling hair is caused by reactions.

Tip: Stick to organic, fragrance-free product

Oils:

  • Calendula Oil
  • Chamomile Oil

Hair Masks:

  • Try Aloe Vera and Cucumber Juice.
  • Yogurt combined with honey

Shampoo:

  • Sebamed products for anti-hair loss
  • Cetaphil makes a gentle shampoo and it does work well.

5. Normal Hair

Lucky You! Nevertheless, don’t overdo it.

Oils: Apply light coconut oil once a week on your skin

As a treatment, use Aloe + Yogurt once a week.

Shampoo: Choose a brand that is mild and doesn’t have sulfates.

How Much Oil Should You Use on Your Hair?

For dry hair: Apply oil and let it sit in your hair overnight or for 6–8 hours

If you have an oily scalp, let your hair soak in the mixture for 1 to 2 hours, then wash it well.

You should leave your shoes on for 2 to 4 hours.

You do not need to oil your skin on a daily basis. Performing exercises twice weekly is perfect.

Is using a Hair Mask Really Beneficial?

Absolutely. Masks help to deeply moisturize, strengthen and repair your skin. However, use these words only when they fit the situation. Try to get together once each week. Brushing your teeth too much may lead to accumulation or cracked enamel.

Pros:

  • Moisturizes scalp
  • Repairs can help with split ends.
  • Helps to make the hair thicker and shinier.

Cons:

  • Weighs down hair that is very greasy.
  • It may cause irritation to the scalp if it contains lots of scents or parabens.

Each person’s sense of smell is unique. As I mentioned before, strong perfumes give me headaches and really make me feel awful. My favorite perfumes are those that are gentle, soothing and refreshing.
